we are family

Following Jesus - living our everyday lives in light of who he is and what he’s done - is the most beautiful, meaningful life a person could live. We want that life for ourselves, our families, our neighbors, our city, and our kids - and we’re working together for that end.

Soma Kids exists to come alongside and support parents and guardians in the discipleship of their kids. We strive to communicate God’s Word to kids in a way they can understand, and we desire to create an environment in which they are welcome, seen, known and loved.

 FAQs

  • Soma Kids classes are available during the gathering for kids nursery through 5th grade.

Some parents prefer to keep their kids with them in the gathering: that is totally fine too! We offer a bin of quiet toys and books for your child in the Family Room. (Please be considerate, and note that the audio from today’s gathering can be heard in the hallway, Family room and nursing moms room.)

Once each month, we have a "Family Sunday", where elementary-aged kids join the adults in the gathering.

  • On Sundays we offer kids classes from nursery up through 5th grade, as well as middle school breakouts for students in 6-8th grade.

Kids classes are separated by age group, so your child will be with other children of the same age. Each class is taught by 2-3 volunteers each week. Kids classes have an age-appropriate mix of free play and structured learning time. Some age groups have memory verses or other take-home resources.

Children can check in starting at 9:45 am, and must be picked up by their parents within 10 minutes of the end of service.

  • Babies through third grade use The Gospel Project as our curriculum foundation.

Fourth and fifth graders use the New City Catechism.

Middle school breakouts utilize an age-appropriate curriculum from the Gospel Project: Student version.

  • Starting at 9:45 am, our kids check-in desk opens (find the kids check-in desk by entering the main doors and heading down the stairs).

Each child is given a sticker with their name, class info, and their pickup number. Parents receive a corresponding sticker stub with their child's pickup number. The child can not be checked out of class without the parent's sticker stub.

  • If your child has an issue that requires their parent or guardian's attention, our team will display your child's check-in number on the projector screen in the gathering. If you see your child's number, head to their classroom.

  • On the first Sunday of each month, we do a "Family Sunday" - on these days, we only offer nursery classes for kids preschool and younger. All other kiddos join us in the gathering. We supply activity sheets and small fidget activities, and sometimes bring out musical shakers during the musical worship.

  • During the school year, our Soma Youth (*SoYo) team leads a class for 6-8th grade students. Students must be checked in downstairs at the start of the service.

While other kids classes run all through the gathering time, the middle school breakout students are released from their class early, so they can come upstairs and join their families for communion at the end of the gathering.

9-12th grade students are invited to fully participate in the main gathering.

We have midweek Youth Hangouts for middle school and high school students.

  • Kids are part of the church - and even though they may be small we believe the Spirit who lives in them is full-size. So we want to engage and encourage them to love Jesus throughout the week just like any other Christian.

After you check your kids in, you'll receive our weekly "what your kids learned in the gathering" email, which is loaded with questions and activities to keep the conversation going. You can also check out our resources page for more tools to disciple your family all week long.

If your family participates in one of our Communities, bring your kids along - and include them as much as possible! When the group discusses the scriptures or discussion questions, ask the kids what they think. When the group prays, encourage the kids to pray.
